The Welsh Marches
Daisy Bank is in Wales, just half a mile from the Shropshire border. Both areas are very different and have plenty to offer in terms of beautiful landscapes, history, walking trails, culture and good food. Wales is well publicised as a land of mountains, sea and celtic heritage.
The welsh coast at Aberystwyth can be reached in just over an hour from the site, over beautiful mountain roads. The red kite feeding centre at Rhyader is very popular with our customers. Montgomery, overlooked by it's ruined castle, the old Montgomeryshire county town; is absolutely tiny, but, like a lot of small towns in this area, gives you a feel of stepping back in time.
Bunners the old-fashioned hardware store is certainly worth a visit. Welsh walking trails near the park include the Kerry Ridgeway and the Severn Way.
There is, of course the famous Offa's Dyke which passes a few miles to the north and west of the park. Powys Castle (National Trust) is an extremely popular tourist attraction in the area. The gardens alone are well worth a visit (please check opening times).

The Shropshire Hills provide plenty of scope for walking and exploring. The Stiperstones, a rocky outcrop mined since Roman times, include such historic names as The Devil's Chair, Nipstone Rock and Mytton Dingle; is ten minutes drive from Daisy Bank. The more famous Long Myndd, often accessed by the visitor at Cardingmill Valley, which is owned by the National Trust, is a large upland area with spectacular views on all sides. Simple line drawing walking guides are sold in Reception.
The small market town of Bishop's Castle, three miles from the site sports two real ale breweries and a pleasant victorian hotel at the top of the town with a pretty water garden "out back" where a well behaved dog is welcome. Telford, famous for its Ironbridge Gorge and Museums is a good day out. The restaurants of Ludlow are gaining a reputation throughout the country. This is a beauiful town to visit, with its castle and specialist food shops. There is even a food festival in September. Shropshire info: www.shropshiretourism.info
